Winter Ecology Walk

from The Maine Edge

Using white-tailed deer as an example, we will discuss how mammals adapt to winter conditions. With dramatic changes in diet and food availability during winter how do animals cope and adapt to this challenging time of the year? We will visit a deer wintering area and learn how the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife monitors winter conditions and what that means to survival of deer. Prepare for cold and snow. We’ll take a moderate walk on and off trail. Presenter: Lee Kanter, biologist with Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife (from maineevents.com)
