The Maine Festival of American Music: Its Roots & Traditions

from Leonard Brooks

Four-day music festival at the historic 1794 Meeting House at the Shaker Village in New Gloucester, one of Maine’s most beautiful and acoustically perfect venues. The festival presents American music in the broader context of the world’s great chamber music. This season, renowned pianist and Gershwin expert Paul Posnak, soprano Christina Astrachan and Brother Arnold Hadd join the Portland String Quartet to celebrate the music of George Gershwin, Ernest Bloch and a rich tradition of Shaker hymns.
