The musical has grown in public appeal since it was first performed on Broadway in 1971. Based on the Gospel of St. John it depicts the last week of Jesus’s life and presents much conflict between Judas Iscariot and Jesus. As may be assumed the story-line which chronicles the events of Holy Week does not follow Biblical accounts thoroughly. The drama is highlighted by such songs as Everything's Alright, I Don’t Know How to Love Him, Superstar and Gethsemane. Jesus Christ Superstar is now considered a classic Rock Opera.
