from The Happenings

In the summer of 2008, the Georgetown Historical Society received a 1913 platinum print taken by photographer Gertrude Käsebier. The photograph itself is an amazing work. Even more intriguing, how did it happen that such a photo was taken at that time and in this place? What was occurring at the turn of the 20th century, both around the country and in Georgetown, to cause a transition in the life of Georgetown Islanders. What impact did the influx of people “from away” have on the community and how did local residents respond?... excerpt from Exhibit Introduction (from maineevents.com)
