This is a completely volunteer-driven, learning festival devoted to introducing, maintaining and furthering traditional arts using all forms of fiber. The artists who teach these (57+) classes offer them at a reduced rate so that you can sample new vistas and share your passions. Thursday is devoted to all day intensives, the rest of the weekend has shorter sessions~ generally 2 to 4 hours. Classes include knitting, spinning, crocheting, surface design, felting, basketmaking, quilting, fiber preparation, dyeing, bookbinding, woodworking and rug hooking…we chose a variety of classes so you could bring friends and family for the weekend. You’re welcome to drop in and browse but encouraged to take two or three classes and spend time in the free demonstration area. While you are here, dawdle at the beach, wander through the organic dyer’s garden, soak up the atmosphere, the passion and wonderful people who weave the sizzle into Fiber College. Shopping is important too. Vendors have been carefully chosen to offer the best on fiber tools and supplies. Demonstrations are scheduled every hour of the weekend and already include Vintage Clothing Found on Maine Postcards from 1890-1930, Introduction to Wood Turning, A Knitter’s Journey through Peru and Crazy Quilt Mania. This year’s Artist in Residence is weaver Alice Seeger. Alice will be teaching several intensive classes and weaving will be the featured demonstration throughout the entire weekend. Saturday night she will talk on Fiber Experiences the World Over. Other evening events include a potluck supper and fiber swap, show and tell, wine retreat on the Bay and a goodbye dessert on Sunday afternoon. The College is always held on the beautiful grounds of Searsport Shores Ocean Campground in picturesque mid-coast Maine the weekend after Labor Day… (from maineevents.com)
