Building community with in our community

from WABI.tv

Penobscot Community Health Care assumed ownership of Hope House on 6/1/10. Hope House is the 2nd largest shelter in the state of Maine. Hope House is a 64 bed emergency homeless shelter licensed by MSHA and the Office of Substance Abuse. Hope House with the support and vision of Penobscot Community Health Care is providing an integrated medical model of care to the homeless at Hope House consisting of access to medical care, psychiatric care, and case management services. Consistent with the mission statement of PCHC involving “Access to All,” Hope House provides emergency shelter to our most vulnerable in our city, offering needed services to the homeless. Hope House is the community safety net in Bangor managing the city of Bangor’s overflow of homeless persons from other shelters. Hope House is running at 130% capacity serving 80 plus homeless persons a night with our emergency shelter. Hope House is currently serving 3 meals a day to the homeless residing at our shelter and for persons who have previously sleeping outside. We are developing a meals calendar at Hope House involving businesses, civic groups, churchs, and or individuals who would be interested in picking a day once a month and preparing and serving a meal for homeless persons accessing our shelter. This meal is served at 5:00pm each night 7 days a week, and we serve approximately 80 homeless persons a night during the evening meal. Hope House is also in need of personal hygiene products for both males and females at this time. Hope House looks forward to building community with in our community. Partnering with the community truly preserves dignity to those in need. Your support matters! If you would like to become a meal provider feel free in contacting Michael Andrick M. Ed., LCPC-C Director of Hope House at 217-6713 ext. 467, and or at mandrick@pchcbangor.org. Together we can be dignity minded in supporting the homeless in our community. (from maineevents.com)
