ELLSWORTH - The artwork of Emily Bracale will be on display at the Ellsworth Center of the University of Maine System's Center Gallery beginning August 30th. The Center is located in the rear of the Mill Mall and her work will be on display at the Center Gallery through November 1, 2010. The Ellsworth Center is open Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 9:45 p.m., and Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. “In the Lyme-Light: Portraits of Illness and Healing” opened in March 2010 at College of the Atlantic and was given great exposure in local newspapers and by Bangor’s WLBZ Channel 2 News. Since then many people have contacted me to share what they and their families are going through with Lyme. My heart goes out to all of them. While I feel sympathy for what they are going through, it has also been comforting to me to discover that some of the most bizarre personal experiences and images I’ve shared have met with grateful exclamations of recognition. I hope this exhibit will help increase public and personal awareness in many areas. Lyme disease is in Maine, and on Mount Desert Island. Anyone who plays, gardens, hikes, or sits out in grassy fields or leaf covered forest floors painting as I used to may be a potential candidate. Please do regular tick checks and use insect repellent; prevention is the key! You can also see this exhibit online at www.inthelyme-light.org and find links to more information about Lyme disease and support groups. (from maineevents.com)
