With Valentine’s Day fast approaching, the Opera House is pleased to present Portland String violinist Ron Lantz in concert with pianist Laura Kargul. The evening will feature a wide selection of French romantic music and will combine the Maine premiere of a little known masterpiece, the sublime Sonata for Violin and Piano by early 20th century composer Jacques de la Presle, with a fresh look at the well-known and universally beloved work, the great Sonata in A Major by Cesar Franck. Complementing these two large scale works will be a set of smaller gems, among them several passionate songs by Liszt and Faure that Lantz and Kargul have transcribed for violin and piano. There will be plenty of sweet desserts on hand tonight, champagne too. Come celebrate the season with us. Concert at 7:30 pm, doors for seating open at 7 pm.
